Anti wrinkle treatment

As we get older the skin ages. Ultraviolet light is one of the most prominent causes of photo-ageing, this causes the skin to sag, develop bags and form wrinkles.

To combat wrinkles of the skin there are a number of anti wrinkle treatments available, with varied effectiveness.

Anti wrinkle treatment - creams

Usually the first anti-wrinkle treatment people try is a cream, available from pharmacies, salons or even supermarkets. Despite great demand, many such products and treatments have not been proven to give lasting or major positive effects. One study found that the best performing creams reduced wrinkles by less than 10% over 12 weeks which is not noticeable to the human eye. Another study found that cheap moisturisers were as effective as high-priced anti wrinkle creams. The anti wrinkle effects of creams are minimal compared with other forms of treatment.

The lack of evidence has not stopped the large cosmetic companies from marketing a vast array creams as anti wrinkle treatments to, mostly women, but increasingly, to men.

Botox anti wrinkle treatment

Botulinum toxin is a medication and a neurotoxic protein produced by the bacterium Clostridium botulinum. It is known to be one of the most the most toxic substances known to man. Despite its deadly toxic effect, it is sometimes used in very small doses to treat muscle spasms. Popularly known by one of its trade names, Botox, botulinum toxin is now commonly used in various settings for cosmetic procedures and as an anti wrinkle treatment.. There are numerous possible side effects including infection and subesequent facial sag, as an anti-wrinkle treatment it can be effective in that it paralyses the muscles in the face and impedes movement. Cosmetic Surgery

The fastest and most noticeable anti wrinkle treatment is probably cosmetic surgery; however there are various side effects and risks associated with any procedure and can be costly.

Proceedures used as anti wrinkle treatments include:

Rhytidectomy or ‘face lift’, the removal of wrinkles and signs of aging from the face.

Browplasty or ‘brow lift’ , which elevates eyebrows and  smooths forehead skin.

Blepharoplasty or ‘eyelid surgery’, reshaping of the eyelids or the application of permanent eyeliner, including Asian blepharoplasty

Chemical peel , a treatment using a chemical solution that causes the dead skin to slough off and eventually peel off, revealing the regenerated skin

All of the anti wrinkle treatments carry the risks associated with invasive procedures

Anti wrinkle device

The restorelite anti wrinkle device uses 1072nm light which safely penetrates the cells of the skin in a non invasive and safe way to stimulate the cells to produce better quality collagen and elastin. Elasticity is improved and wrinkles and lines are reduced by using the device.

Other devices make similar claims but do not use the patented technology of the restorelite anti wrinkle device and have much less clinical evidence to prove their efficacy
