Hearing Repair

The hearing Improvement Device fits inside the ear just as a normal hearing aid, but is only required for the treatment period.

Age Related Deafness

As we age, the function of all the cells in the body declines. In the ear this is noticed at the higher frequencies first and is called presbyacousis.

There becomes a time when the sensory organs and the nerve ending in the inner ear are alive but ÒtiredÓ due to impeding cell death. In this state they malfunction rendering the person hard of hearing.

The hearing organelles are protected a very thick bony surround.

As can be seen from the diagram the distance from the skin of the scalp to the cochlea (hearing organ) can be in the order of centimeters, much of this being comprised of solid bone.

The solution to the problem of delivering light to an organelle buried deep inside the bony skull is to use the external auditory canal. By accurately directing the 1072nm light through the tympanic membrane the ageing and ineffective cells within the cochlea can be rejuvenated and allowed to function once againÑthus providing a partial return of some of the lost useful hearing.

The light is accurately directed to treat the inner ear through the ear drum by using existing technologyÑthe hear aid mould which directs amplified sound to the ear drum.

The device is placed in the ear just in the same way as one would put a hearing aid, the only exception being that the Hearing Improvement Device (HID) would only be worn for 6 minutes twice a day.

The hearing improvement device will improve hearing with two main outcomes:

  1. No need to wear a hearing aid as natural hearing has been improved
  2. Extend the useful time for which a hearing aid is beneficial

The Hearing Improvement Device is introduced into the external ear just the same way as a hearing aide. The light source is at the end of the mould and will easily penetrate the ear drum and deliver the rejuvenating 1072nm light to the cochlea (hearing sense organ).
