Restorelite is a purpose built multi- light emitting diode unit radiating a narrow waveband of near infra-red light that has been medically proven to be therapeutic.

If I had not been involved with this project then I would have said exactly the same. My name is James Haslam and I am an ophthalmic surgeon in the northeast of England. I have spent the last 10 years working with Dr Gordon Dougal, medical doctor and scientist, exploring the effects of infra red light on living cells. We started off using cold sores (herpes simplex) as a clinical model to search for a therapeutic waveband of light within the infrared spectrum. After treating many hundreds of cold sores, and utilising basic scientific principles with the help of

Durham University, we were successful in identifying 1072nm wavelength light to be therapeutic with properties antagonistic to harmful ultra-violet light.

In 2001 the Journal of clinical and experimental dermatology published our results in a clinical paper.

Since that time we have independently manufactured and distributed a cold sore treatment device, Virulite CS, which has proved to be the most effective treatment for cold sores according to a market research survey.

Within the last year a post-graduate student at a northeast university sponsored by Dr Dougal and myself has completed laboratory experiments, which show that 1072nm light protects white blood cells from the damaging effect of ultra-violet light. This scientific paper is being submitted for publication.

Like so many medical discoveries the beneficial effect of this wavelength of light on wrinkles and skin quality (rejuvenation) was a chance finding. Only recently have we been treating volunteers with prototype units with amazing results! 95% have noticed improvement after 1 month of Restorelite treatment on a regular daily basis. Not one of over 40 volunteers was willing to give the treatment unit back! We have documented the results of treatment using digital photography in controlled conditions of illumination and facial expression. Our experiments have focused on the skin of the eyelids and the immediate vicinity of the eyes, which is more amenable to photographic documentation, but there is no reason why skin in other areas should not be treated and improved.

The technology is so new that we do not know whether or not the effects are cumulative when treatment is continued beyond two months…common sense dictates that at some point the treatment must be finite!

I take some pride in re-iterating the fact that we are entirely independent and that we have financed the whole project ourselves. Our cold sore treatment has patents granted in selected countries worldwide and Restorelite has patents pending. We have overcome enormous setbacks more than equivalent to Harrison in his pursuit of the measurement of longitude.

The British public spend millions of pounds each year on so-called rejuvenating cosmetic preparations, which pretend to have a background of medical science. Restorelite now makes it possible to obtain a product, which has a basis in nature; it is indeed quite simply a component of sunlight that has been proven to be medically therapeutic. An additional benefit is that animal testing has not been necessary.
